Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a form of recovery program which works to treat substance abuse issues and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the person in treatment takes part in a variety of treatment activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This takes place anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the severity of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be beneficial for addicted individuals who cannot afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, clients participate in typical counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health problems which could prevent them from making progress and obtaining gains throughout the treatment process.

Individuals can become addicted to drugs no matter their handicap, disability or personal physical challenge. This sometimes makes people particularly more susceptible to becoming involved in substance abuse, because of the varying challenges that this can bring about in the person's life. Self payment drug and alcohol treatment facilities are an outstanding alternative to other types of treatment facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug or alcohol rehab program. Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors including whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug rehab, and there are a lot of drug and alcohol rehab facilities throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should explore which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full benefits of such a program.
