Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically attend treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is commonly the 1st step in getting off drugs. It enables an individual to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are various types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A common mistake that many addicts make is to believe that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is seldom the case. All detox does is get somebody through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is always recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why someone was using drugs in the first place.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where an individual who is recovering from alcohol or drug addiction can find support and re-acclimate to life and society. A halfway house is a place where someone can feel secure and rebuild their life while maintaining sobriety while also take part in clean and sober, productive activities. Halfway houses supply an ideal opportunity for recovering addicts to be in an environment where they can acquire further counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or finding stable employment so that they can support a healthy and productive, drug-free life.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type oftreatment program where the addicted individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically demands a stay of 30 days or less. While attending residential short-term treatment the client undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that commonly includes a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person to recover and be able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Enrolling into a residential long-term treatment facility (more than 30 days) is the best way ofapproaching a serious substance abuse problem. This type of substance abuse treatment facility is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the person in recovery is free to come and go as they please. Attending a residential long-term rehabilitation program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will reside at the rehab center around the clock while you are in recovery. While offering a more relaxed home-like setting the person has access to treatment professionals at all times. Long term drug or alcohol treatment facilities are an ideal choice for those who have a long history of addiction or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at recovery in the past.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must handle both issues if there is any hope for them to recover completely. Some people take drugs to ease symptoms of mental health disorders, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. Drug rehabilitation professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health problems off of drugs and mentally stable and healthy.

Women Only

Recovery from drug or alcohol addiction is a process that can be difficult and in manyways intimidating. This is why some women seeking recovery feel more comfortable in rehab centers designed specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol oftenhave personal issues that are much different than that of males. In a drug treatment program where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more at ease and will be able to work through her personal issues that led to her drug abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of women with addiction problems report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These delicate issues are easier to address in the company of other women without fear of judgment or retaliation.

Men Only

Drug rehab programs made specifically for men are emerging across the nation. While programs that treat both men and women continue to be the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are developing programs intended to help a specific target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's individual needs are in a way that standard facilities cannot provide. Although these specialized types of rehabilitation programs are not needed for all recovering addicts, many men are deciding on men-only addiction rehabilitation centers. This rehabilitation option is ideal for those who feel more comfortable among others of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult memories from the past. Addiction recovery is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a very good way of getting the support needed to make the process that much more bearable and successful.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients typically need substance abuse rehabilitation due to problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be completed in order to be admitted into a criminal justice drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility or recovery program. The first step is to establish the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who determine how much and what type of drug or alcohol is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients obtain their drug rehabilitation while they are incarcerated. For the best possible results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a long-term residential transitional living program.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment substance abuse rehab programs are a great alternative to other types of treatment centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment at a specific program, contact a substance abuse rehab facility and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact a number of programs so that you have a comparison of your choices with regards to rehab options and payment methods.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, many effective substance abuse rehab facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more effective drug rehab centers which require an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those clients who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol rehab program. For additional information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug rehab center in your area to see which programs your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug rehab can be a challenge, because typically all resources have been exhausted due to their addiction. Many drug rehab programs recognize this fact which is why many drug and alcohol treatment facilities across the nation provide payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are various variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol rehab facilities would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can receive the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the United States provide payment assistance to men and women struggling with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of rehabilitation can select a rehab program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment plan and design of the program will provide them the best results. The addicted person can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug or alcohol rehabilitation program to discuss what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will often work with the individual to locate an equivalent or similar treatment program which is more affordable or that can offer workable financing options so that they can get the help they so desperately need.
