  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • In many areas, crystal meth is cheaper than Ecstasy, at $10 for about one-tenth of a gram whereas an ecstasy tablet can cost twice as much, about $20.
  • A number of studies have concluded that long-term, heavy Ecstasy users suffer cognitive deficits, including problems with memory.
  • Many pharmacists in the United States have often dubbed methadone as the "scary pill", because sometimes people do not get the immediate pain relief that they want from this drug, so they take more than they should, which could potentially result in a fatal overdose.
  • In 2008 around 700,000 Americans over the age of 12 had used inhalants for the first time within the past year.
  • Employees who suffer from substance abuse are at a higher risk to frequently change jobs, decreased output and productivity, failure to be punctual, involvement in a recordable injury while working and filing workers compensation claims against their employer.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to become fully rehabilitated. Some people take drugs to alleviate symptoms of mental health disorders, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. Drug rehabilitation professionals know how to distinguish between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the person. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health issues off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and happy.
