  • According to an epidemiologist for the Center for Disease Control, drug overdose death rates are currently more than double what they were during the peak years of crack cocaine mortality in the 1990's, and five times higher than the rates during the year of heroin mortality peak in 1975.
  • In the past there were very few milligrams of actual heroin found in a bag of the drug, as most of the bag was filled with additives like sugar, powdered milk, or quinine.
  • There are a broad range of overdose victims throughout the United States; these individuals can range from teens that pop pills to get high to middle-aged workers who must take prescription pain medications for a strained back and inadvertently become physically addicted to the drugs.
  • During 2008, past-year use of PCP was reported by 1.1 percent of high school seniors.
  • Addiction and dependence to Valium occurs because of the calming effect caused by releases of dopamine in the brain when someone takes the drug, which is the bodys pleasure and gratification chemical.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for addiction is a type oftreatment program where the person will reside at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which normally requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that typically includes a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all scenarios of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
