  • When an individual has taken an overdose of an opiate drug, the pupils in their eyes will usually contract and they will display extreme lethargy or possibly lapse into a coma.
  • After the beginning of alcohol withdrawal, symptoms may worsen within 48-72 hours and can even continue to plague the individual for weeks.
  • An overdose from stimulants such as amphetamines or cocaine is generally characterized by symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, muscle cramps, seizures, psychosis, paranoia, and confusion, loss of motor control movement, vomiting, lack of consciousness, cardiac arrest, and death.
  • Individuals who become addicted to methamphetamine often feel that methamphetamine use provides a social network or community for persons who feel like outsiders.
  • Since 1999, the large majority of drug overdose deaths have mostly been attributed to one particular category of drugs that are commonly referred to as "narcotics", and include prescription painkillers called opiods.
