  • A recent survey indicates that among persons aged 12 or older who used pain relievers non-medically in the past 12 months, over 55% reported that the source of the opiate the most recent time they used was from a friend or relative for free.
  • Between 2009 and 2010, lifetime use of Ecstasy by 8th graders increased from 2.2% to 3.3%, past year use from 1.3% to 2.4%, and current use 0.6% to 1.1%. This increase in use follows declines in perceived risk associated with the drug reported over the past several years.
  • Due to the rapid onset of central nervous system depression that commonly occurs as the result of a methadone overdose, it is not wise to encourage the person to vomit, as this could lead to them choking.
