  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Excessive alcohol consumption is most common among women who have never been married, are living unmarried with a partner, or are divorced or separated.
  • Common side effects of anabolic steroid use are jaundice fluid retention, high blood pressure, increases in LDL cholesterol, severe acne, and in rare cases, liver and kidney tumors.
  • Acetaminophen is metabolized solely by the liver, so there is a risk of fatal overdose due to hepatotoxicity when someone takes too much Vicodin.
  • By age 25-30, children of alcoholics tend to have levels of drug use "substantially higher" than children of non-alcoholics.
  • Ecstasy is in a class of drugs known as club drugs, and continues to be used by millions of Americans across the country, despite evidence of its potential harmful effects.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to recover completely. Some individuals take drugs to relieve symptoms of mental health problems, and some individuals take drugs which then, in turn, brings about symptoms which are identical to mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. Drug rehabilitation professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health problems off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and productive.
